8 Excellent 4-Star And 5-Star Hotels You Can Get For S$100

8 Excellent 4-Star And 5-Star Hotels You Can Get For S$100

Singaporeans are avid travellers. According to a 2017 survey, Singaporeans made an average of 5.2 trips in a year – that’s a holiday about every two months.

Luckily, the strength of the Singaporean currency means that your dollar can stretch quite far in certain places. In fact, in certain areas of the world, you can score luxury lodgings without breaking the bank. Here are eight affordable 4-star or 5-star hotels you can get for just around S$100.

What exactly is a 4-star or 5-star hotel?

Hotel rankings aren’t an exact science – there isn’t an international, standardised system of doling out stars. Ratings can depend on the country you’re visiting – a 5-star hotel in a certain part of the world may not be as swanky as another 5-star hotel elsewhere – and in some cases, rankings are given by the hotels themselves.

So, to curate this list, we filtered out 4-star and 5-star hotels under S$100 (including fees and taxes) through metasearch engines KAYAK and Expedia. However, in order to avoid hotels that fall short of their star rating, we only included hotels that meet a minimum of 4 (out of 5) in TripAdvisor traveller ratings.

All prices reported are based on Expedia’s prices for Thursday night, November 1, 2018, about three months in advance at the time of writing, so as to avoid any last-minute promotional pricing. They include the price of the room, taxes and other miscellaneous charges (and, unless indicated, exclude discounts or promotions).

Travellers fond of outdoor excursions will want to visit in December during ski season. The hotel is a 30-minute car ride away from several ski resorts: the Mount Moiwa Ski Resort, the Sapporo Bankei Ski Area and the Sapporo Teine. If you’re not into adrenaline-pumping activities, the hotel’s central location means that there are many local attractions like parks and museums within walking distance.

2. La Residencia Hoi An Boutique Hotel (Hoi An, Vietnam)

The La Residencia Hoi An Boutique Hotel’s interior decoration derives inspiration from a 19th century diary of a Vietnamese woman who lived with her Portuguese husband, and as such fuses local and colonial Portuguese architecture.

Although the hotel is half a block away from the Thu Bồn River, the next-door hotel obscures much of the view. Nevertheless, La Residencia offers spa and massage services, an indoor pool and a snazzy bar.

The hotel is a short walk away from some of Hoi An’s major attractions, such as the Japanese Covered Bridge and the Hoi An Central Market.

While a room at the La Residencia Hoi An Boutique Hotel starts at S$140 (before taxes), early bird promotions and discounts that run from July to December means that you can easily grab a Junior Suite (ideal for two people) below S$100.
