Budget 2019 Will Focus On Health And Infrastructure
Finance Minister Heng Swee Keat said that next month’s budget will focus on infrastructure spending, healthcare for senior citizens and helping businesses transition to a digital economy.
“We want to be able to continue to invest in education, the health care of our people, and in taking care of the growing number of seniors,” Mr Heng said in an interview with Bloomberg on January 22.
This year’s Budget will provide details of a special healthcare package for seniors who are part of the Merdeka generation.
Previously, Mr Heng said on Sunday (January 20) that the need for “better security and better ability to defend ourselves is also growing”, and that these needs will be reflected in the upcoming Budget. However, Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen said that the Budget will not see a large spike in defense spending.
Mr Heng will outline more details in the Budget speech, which is set to be delivered on February 18.
