ComfortDelGro To Offer Dynamic Pricing Alongside Metered Fares
ComfortDelGro will soon join ride-hailing services like Grab and Gojek in offering dynamic pricing (also known as surge pricing) to customers.
Dynamic pricing means that taxi fares will fluctuate according to demand – customers may be paying higher fares during peak hours such as during lunch time. In contrast, metered fares offer a fixed, flat fee.
ComfortDelGro may offer the dynamic pricing option on its phone app, alongside regular metered fares.
Mr Ang Hin Kee, deputy chairman of the Government Parliamentary Committee for Transport, acknowledged that some commuters are unhappy with surge pricing. However, he pointed out that ComfortDelGro’s large fleet can limit how high dynamic fare prices can rise.
ComfortDelGro may also open its taxi-booking app to private-hire drivers. With this move, Singapore’s largest taxi operator is expected to grow a new revenue stream from ride hailing.
