Singaporeans To Pay More For Electricity From July To September 2019

According to SP Group, electricity tariffs are going to rise by an average of 6.4 per cent in 3Q this year.

The increase is 1.43 cents per kilowatt hour compare to 2Q 2019, leading to the average monthly bill for a family living in a 4-room HDB going up by S$5.20.

The increase is to compensate for the increasing cost of natural gas used to generate electricity.

However, since Singaporeans can choose other electricity retailers apart from SP Group, this may prove to be less of a concern.

The 13 retailers under EMA’s Open Energy Market (OEM) initiative are offering prices of about 20 per cent lower than SP Group’s tariff.

Consumers have the luxury of choosing the retailers with plans that suit their needs best. Some plans come with freebies and environmental-friendly initiatives that will appeal to many Singaporean households.
