Merdeka Generation Seniors To Get Letters Of Eligibility By End-April
About 500,000 seniors will receive letters confirming their eligibility for the Merdeka Generation Package (MG) by the end of this month.
Who is eligible?
To qualify for MG, seniors must be born between 1 January 1950 to 31 December 1959, and have attained Singapore citizenship by 1966. Those who are born on 31 December 1949 or earlier and attained citizenship by 1966 but did not receive the Pioneer Generation Package are also eligible for MG.
What will seniors receive?
MG seniors will receive their Welcome Folder and Card from late June this year. The folder will include details on the package. The package includes:
- A one-time S$100 Passion Silver card top-up
- An Annual S$200 MediSave top-up for five years (2019 – 2013)
- Additional 5% MediShield Life premiums subsidy
- Starting November, an additional 25% off subsidised bills at polyclinics and public Specialist Outpatient Clinics
At this time, eligible seniors are not required to take any action to receive these benefits.
Seniors can also check their eligibility status online.
Citizens born on 31 December 1959 or earlier, but who became citizens after 31 December 1996 can submit an appeal to be included in the package. To submit a claim, the applicant must have “good claims” to be counted among the Merdeka Generation. Claims can be submitted to the Pioneer Generation and Merdeka Generation Appeals Panel, and will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
