Singaporeans Second In Asia Pacific For Overseas Online Purchases
In the Asia Pacific region, Singapore comes in second when it comes to buying things online from overseas.
Global market research and consulting firm Ipsos found that around 73% of online shoppers in Singapore bought items from overseas in the past year, with 14% shopping on foreign websites exclusively.
The study, which was commissioned by PayPal, noted that Hong Kong made the most overseas online purchases. 75% of online shoppers in Hong Kong made cross-border online purchases in the past year.
Clothing, footwear and accessories were the most popular categories of items bought online. Around 70% of respondents in Asia bought at least one of these items in the past year.
Shoppers who bought items overseas mostly went to online stores based in China. Those who were surveyed cited better prices as a primary reason for shopping on Chinese platforms.
